From the Pastor – 8 October 2017

As I’ve spent time in God’s written word this week, I’ve been reminded again how essential it is for us to be hearing from God, that we may be encouraged by the stories of those who have walked the path of faith before us. This golden verse leapt off the page to me this week from Romans 15:4. Here it is in a few different translations:

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” (NIV)

“…the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for
God’s promises to be fulfilled.”

“God wants the combination of his steady, constant calling and warm, personal counsel in Scripture to come to characterize us, keeping us alert for whatever he will do next.” (The Message)

Wow! God’s word is intended to uplift us and keep us on a faith trajectory as God fulfils his purposes in our lives and in the world. It is my prayer for Mill Park Baptist Church today that we would respond to God’s steady, constant calling and his deeply personal counsel as we dig intentionally into his word. May we be characterised as a “people of the word”!

One of the best ways you can immerse yourself in God’s word is by joining a Life Group, where you’ll be encouraged by others who are learning alongside you! If you’re not yet in a Life Group, drop by the Welcome Desk today or chat to Ps Kathryn.
